invadhirst (2025) is a collaborative work by damien hirst and invader, created for the triple trouble exhibition at newport street gallery and presented in collaboration with heni. executed as a 21-colour silkscreen print on somerset satin white 410gsm cotton paper, the work brings together two highly distinctive visual languages in a deliberately structured composition.
what i like about invadhirst is how clearly it captures the logic of both artists without either one being diluted. at first glance it reads as pure invader — the pixel grid, repetition and digital logic of the space invader language. but the structure underneath is unmistakably hirst, with its ordered, clinical grid system and controlled colour relationships.
the interesting part for me is that it doesn’t feel like a simple mash-up. it feels more like a shared system where both practices already overlap — hirst’s obsession with repetition and formal structure, and invader’s reduction of imagery into modular units. in that sense, the collaboration feels unusually natural rather than forced.
for me, the work sits at its best when you think of it as a collision between two rigid visual languages that actually align more than you expect. it’s controlled, system-based and very intentionally designed as a hybrid rather than simply a gesture.
part of the appeal also comes from its context. invadhirst is not an isolated edition, but a work anchored in the wider curatorial experiment of triple trouble at newport street gallery, where the visual vocabularies of the participating artists were deliberately brought into contact.
damien hirst has established an international reputation through a practice that has explored repetition, mortality, colour, structure and the relationship between art and commerce. invader has likewise developed a distinctive international practice through his pixelated imagery, bringing together street culture, digital aesthetics and nostalgia. invadhirst is particularly interesting because it brings these two very different but surprisingly compatible approaches together in a single work.
for collectors, the appeal is also in the specificity of the collaboration: a signed work by both damien hirst and invader, produced for a major gallery exhibition and published by heni in an edition of 1,194.

shadow iii, plate 3 (2009) is a limited edition work by anish kapoor that continues the artist’s long exploration of surface, perception and absence. executed as an etching in colours on somerset textured soft white paper, the work feels less like a conventional image and more like an exploration of light, depth and perception.
what stands out for me is the way the surface behaves. it doesn’t just reflect or sit flat — it absorbs and disrupts light in a way that changes how you read the work depending on angle and distance. that ambiguity is central to kapoor’s practice, where you’re never fully sure whether you’re looking at depth, void or surface.
what i like about this plate-based work is its restraint. compared with kapoor’s larger sculptural pieces, it’s more intimate, but it still carries that same optical instability that defines his strongest work. the simplicity of the composition allows the qualities of the surface, colour and light to become the focus.
anish kapoor has built a distinguished international reputation through his exploration of form, space, colour and perception. his sculptures and installations are held in major museum and public collections around the world, while his prints and limited editions offer collectors an opportunity to engage with the ideas that run through his wider artistic practice.
shadow iii, plate 3 is a particularly interesting example of kapoor’s approach to limited edition works, combining the physical qualities of etching with the sense of depth and ambiguity that has become such a distinctive part of his visual language.

ihate human beings, polar bear (2022) is a limited edition screenprint by david shrigley featuring a simply drawn polar bear alongside the blunt declaration “hate human beings”. printed in 10 colours without a varnish overlay, the work uses the familiar combination of animal imagery and deadpan text that has become such a distinctive part of shrigley’s visual language.
like shrigley’s otter print of the same title, the humour comes from the contrast between the innocent-looking animal and the unexpectedly blunt statement. this time, though, the polar bear gives the work a slightly different feel. whether intentionally or not, it’s difficult not to think about humanity’s relationship with the natural world, which adds another layer beneath the joke.
what i like is that the print works whether you read it simply as a funny image or as something with a little more meaning. shrigley leaves that decision entirely to the viewer. the statement is deliberately straightforward, but placing it alongside a polar bear inevitably invites you to think about what the animal might be saying — and whether the joke is quite as simple as it first appears.
for me, that’s one of the strengths of shrigley’s work. the best pieces are entertaining at first glance but continue to reveal themselves the longer you spend with them. hate human beings, polar bear has that quality: it’s immediately funny, but the choice of animal gives the work an additional dimension.
the simplicity of the drawing is also typical of shrigley’s approach. a few expressive lines, a recognisable animal and a short piece of text are enough to create an image with considerable personality. the result feels spontaneous and slightly absurd, while still leaving room for the viewer to find their own meaning.
david shrigley has developed one of the most distinctive visual languages in contemporary british art, combining loose drawing, deadpan humour and observations of everyday life. his work has attracted an international audience across contemporary art, design and popular culture, while his limited edition prints form an important part of his wider practice.
hate human beings, polar bear is an edition of 125 and is presented in mint condition, unframed and retained in its original sealed packaging as issued by the publisher. the print has never been framed or displayed.
